Clearlake Fire: Blaze Near Eastlake Drive and Oak Street in California

A fast-moving brush fire in Lake County’s Clearlake community has burned through approximately 100 acres and forced mandatory evacuations near Eastlake Drive and Oak Street, according to fire officials.

The blaze, first reported at 2:19 p.m. on August 3, initially involved two structures and was burning at a moderate rate of spread, Cal Fire said. It has since exploded in size as wind gusts and dry conditions fueled its advance.

Fire Started Near 13700 Block of Eastlake Drive

The initial dispatch described a fire on the 13700 block of Eastlake Drive covering 3–4 acres. Conditions at the time were 86°F, with 21% relative humidity and winds gusting up to 27 mph. Forecasters warned gusts could reach 35 mph by 5 p.m.

“The fire is approximately 3–4 acres burning at a moderate rate of spread with two structures involved. CAL FIRE is in Unified Command with the Lake County Fire Protection District,” Cal Fire said in an early post on X.

Fire Grows to 100 Acres, Still 0% Contained

By 3:20 p.m., fire officials confirmed the blaze had expanded to about 100 acres and was 0% contained. As of the latest update, 15 engines, 5 bulldozers, 4 hand crews, 3 water tenders, 2 helicopters, 6 air tankers, and 1 tactical aircraft are engaged in firefighting operations.

“The fire near Eastlake Drive and Oak Street in Clearlake is now approximately 100 acres,” Cal Fire said. “There are 15 engines, 5 dozers, 4 hand crews, 3 water tenders, 2 helicopters, 6 air tankers and one tactical aircraft responding.”

Evacuation Orders and Warnings in Effect

Authorities have issued mandatory evacuation orders for the following zones:

  • CLE-E123
  • CLE-E126
  • CLE-E135
  • CLO-E113

Evacuation warnings are in place for:

  • CLE-E124
  • CLO-E109

The orders impact several community landmarks, including:

  • Clearlake City Hall
  • Lake County Tribal Health Southshore Clinic
  • Burns Valley Mall
  • Borax Lake area

Residents are urged to leave immediately if located in the evacuation zones. Air quality may also be affected in nearby regions.

Fire Conditions Remain Dangerous

Strong wind gusts, dry brush, and low humidity continue to complicate containment efforts. The fire remains zero percent contained as of the most recent update.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
