Threads debuted a year ago as Meta’s direct microblogging competitor to Elon Musk’s X (previously known as Twitter). As the platform grows, Meta intends to add a variety of new functionalities to the app.
The social media giant appears to be working on a new feature that will allow users to post Instagram Reels directly to Threads. The new feature could be part of Meta’s intention to offer cross-posting functionality to improve content sharing throughout its app suite.
According to noted developer Alessandro Paluzzi (@alex193a), Threads is currently developing a new functionality that would allow users to share Instagram Reels and posts directly to Threads. Paluzzi’s screenshot shows that the Threads drop-down menu now contains a new Instagram option in addition to the previous GIF, Voice, and Poll options.
Tap the new Instagram button in Threads’ write box to see a grid of Instagram posts and Reels. Users can then select which Reels and posts they wish to share on Threads. Meta apparently told TechCrunch that it is definitely testing its features.
Currently, many people share their Instagram posts and Reels on Threads to gain engagement and develop a fan base. The new button is expected to increase user engagement and content visibility.
Notably, Meta has been promoting cross-posting from Facebook and Instagram to Threads since last year. Thread posts are already automatically displayed on Instagram and Facebook. It is doing a test that allows users to cross-post pictures from Instagram to Threads.
