iPhone 17 Lineup to Reportedly Feature 120Hz LTPO Displays

Since 2021, Apple has only made 120Hz screens available on their Pro iPhones.

Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 17 series in the second half of next year. While there have been rumors that Apple will include a new iPhone 17 Air model in the series, a new report from South Korea indicates that all iPhone 17 models will include an LTPO (low-temperature polycrystalline oxide) screen with a high refresh rate.

This would represent a considerable upgrade over the previous iPhone series. Apple usually only includes high refresh rate screens on Pro models, with the current iPhone 16 and 16 Plus only featuring a 60Hz panel.

According to ETNews, which cites industry sources, all iPhone 17 versions will utilize LTPO screens from Samsung and LG. The LTPO screen technology, which allows for a high 120Hz refresh rate, is now limited to the top-end Pro series. It improves screen smoothness and responsiveness while scrolling, viewing animations, and playing games while reducing power consumption.

This is not the first time we’ve heard of iPhone 17 displays. In September, Ross Young of Display Supply Chain Consultants said that all models in the 2025 portfolio, including non-Pro variants, would feature 120Hz ProMotion displays.

Apple has been offering 120Hz panels, known as ProMotion displays, on its Pro iPhone models since 2021. It also allows the always-on display feature. This year’s iPhone 16 features a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display, while the iPhone 16 Plus has a bigger 6.7-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display that is limited to 60Hz.

The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max feature 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch Super Retina XDR OLED screens, respectively, with a refresh rate of 120Hz (ProMotion).

An A18 or A19 CPU with support for 8GB of RAM might power the basic iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air. The front-facing cameras on all four iPhone 17 models may be 24 megapixels.
