Gemini Live With Multiple Voices Reportedly Rolling Out

Gemini Live is rolling out with 10 different voices.

According to reports, Gemini Live, Google’s two-way conversational artificial intelligence (AI) feature, is now available to Gemini free users on Android. The voice feature was made available to Gemini Advanced customers last week after being initially introduced at Google I/O in May.

However, according to a recent report, this feature is now available to all Android users of Gemini. It’s unclear, though, if iOS users will get this feature in the near future.

9to5Google reports that the Gemini Live feature was spotted on Android devices with the Gemini free plan. If true this is an interesting move by the Mountain View-based software company, considering the capability was only recently made available to Gemini Advanced users.

According to the report, Android users can change the voice assistant to Gemini by using the Gemini app, which displays a new “circular waveform with a sparkle” indicator on the bottom-right side of the Gemini assistant interface and app.

Tapping the icon brings up Gemini Live’s full-screen interface, which includes “End” and “Hold” buttons at the bottom and a large blue waveform animation in the center, similar to what we saw with Gemini Advanced. While the feature is activated, a notification appears displaying its status. Users can also end the conversation from the notice.

Furthermore, once the conversation has ended, users will receive a text prompt that displays the entire communication between the user and Gemini. This is comparable to the user experience while using Voice Mode in ChatGPT.

While one obvious advantage of the functionality is the ability to operate the AI chatbot hands-free, this is also possible with the Gemini AI assistant. The distinguishing feature here is the conversational and human-like voice, which can change pitch, tone, and even express emotions. Notably, the feature does not accept extensions for other applications like Gmail, Maps, and more.

Users can additionally select from ten distinct voices to communicate with Gemini. These voices have different pitches, regional accents, and intensity levels.
