Located in the Chamoli district in Uttarakhand, Badrinath is a holy town situated at a height of 3,133 meters. It is one of the four sites in India’s Char Dham pilgrimage and the pre-eminent abode of Lord Vishnu.

Resided between Nar and Narayan peaks, the divine land of Vishnu also belongs to the Chota Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand. Beginning with Yamunotri, Gangotri, and Kedarnath, Badrinath is the right place to experience the true beauty of nature.

Badrinath is a land of legends located between snowy mountain peaks and the Alaknanda River which creates the perfect environment to promote religious connection.

Best Places To Visit In Badrinath

1. Badrinath Temple

Badrinarayan Temple also known as Badrinath Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu located in Badrinath, Uttarakhand, India. Established by Adi Shankaracharya Badrinath shrine is situated at a height of 3,133 meters.

It is to be said that Adi Shankaracharya found the idol of Lord Badri immersed in the waters of Alaknanda and installed it in a cave near the Tapt Kund. In the winter season, the idol of Lord Badri is shifted to Yogadhyan Badri in Pandukeshwar located in the Chamoli district.

2. Tapt Kund

Below the Badrinarayan Temple, there is a natural thermal spring that is believed to be infused with therapeutic properties. From ancient times devotees took a dip in the holy waters of the Kund before visiting the sacred shrine of Badrinath.

3. Neelkanth Peak

Nilkantha is a major peak of the Garhwal division of the Himalayas, in Uttarakhand, India. With an elevation of 6,596 meters, Neelkanth Peak sets a great background to the Badrinath shrine.

4. Vasudhara Falls

Vasudhara Falls is a 122 meters high beautiful waterfall situated near Badrinath, in Uttarakhand, India. It is located on the river “Alaknanda”. The distance from Badrinath to Vasudhara Falls is 9 km which consists of the first 3 kilometers of drivable road to mana village then the next 6 km is a walkable trek from there.

Here is the travel route for Badrinath,

Haridwar – Rishikesh – Deoprayag – Kirtinagar – Shrinagar – Rudraprayag – Gauchar – Karnaprayag – Nandprayag – Chamoli – Birahi – Pipalkoti – Garur Ganga – Helang – Joshimath – Vishnuprayag – Govindghat – Pandukeshwar – Hanumanchatti – Badarinath.

Travel By Air:

Jolly Grant airport is the nearest airport to Badrinath which is located on Rishikesh-Dehradun road about 317 km away from Badrinath.

Travel By Road:

Badrinath is well connected to Haridwar, Rishikesh, and Dehradun and easily accessible by road. It is located at a distance of 525 Km from Delhi & 296 Km from Rishikesh. One can easily travel through regular buses which are operating to Badrinath from Delhi, Haridwar, and Rishikesh.

Travel By Train:

The nearest railway stations to Badrinath are at Rishikesh (297 km), Haridwar (324 km) and Kotadwar (327 km). However, it is recommended to use the Haridwar station for an easy journey.

Best Time To Visit Badrinath

The best time to visit Badrinath is between May to June and September to October which is the summer season in the region. Mostly this place is chilly all over the year and in the Monsoon season it witnesses heavy rainfall. Winter is worst than Monsoon as it experiences extremely cold temperatures that touch the sub-zero level due to heavy snowfall.

Traveling in Summer

In Badrinath, summers begin to set in from the Month of May and last till June. This is the season when the temperature ranges between 7°C – 18°C and making the atmosphere ideal for visiting the temple and sightseeing. Don’t forget to pack your cold clothing along with trekking accessories while making your trip to this beautiful location.

Traveling in Monsoon

From July to September is the time period when Badrinath experiences Monsoon season. During this period this region experiences heavy rainfall with the temperature dropping down to 10° to 15°C. Because of the heavy rainfall, this season is not ideal for traveling.

Traveling in Winter

Badrinath experiences winter from October to the month of April. With heavy snowfall, this region experiences temperatures from 5°C to sub-zero levels. During this period this place becomes inaccessible with the roads remaining closed due to extreme weather conditions. Hence, it is not advisable to travel to this place during the winter season.
