Apple has begun accepting applications for its annual Swift Student Challenge, a global competition for children hoping to become developers. The competition requires competitors to demonstrate their coding abilities and creativity through app playgrounds.

Every year, the Cupertino-based tech giant selects 350 winners from among the contestants. This year, Apple will select 50 excellent submissions from among the 350 winners, and those participants will be invited to the company’s headquarters in Cupertino.

Apple Swift Student Challenge 2024 Eligibility Criteria

The Swift Student Challenge landing page is now live, and interested students can start applying for the challenge. Apple’s eligibility criteria are that applicants must be 13 years or older in the United States and 16 years or older in the European Union. In other regions, the corresponding jurisdiction applies.

Applicants must also be enrolled in an accredited academic institution or official homeschool equivalent, enrolled in a STEM organization’s educational curriculum, enrolled in an Apple Developer Academy, or have graduated from high school or equivalent within the last 6 months and are awaiting acceptance or have already been accepted to an accredited academic institution.

Apple Swift Student Challenge 2024 Rules

Participants will be required to create an interactive scene using Swift Playgrounds or Xcode on a topic of their choice from the list supplied. The former is an app playground for individuals who are new to coding, while the latter is for those who are already adept.

The created playground experience should not last more than three minutes. The submission should be a ZIP file with app playground format (.swiftpm). The file should be playable offline and include all of the essential resources. The ZIP file size should not exceed 25MB.

The app playground should be written and run on Swift Playgrounds 4.4 or later, which requires iPadOS 16 or macOS 13.5 or later, or Xcode 15 on macOS 13.5, or later.
